East Hartford (AP) -- Donald Brown runs for 146 yards and four first-half touchdowns as Connecticut wins its season opener 35-3 over Hofstra. It was UConn's seventh win without a loss against Championship Subdivision teams since the Huskies started playing major college football in 2002. Hofstra scored on Brian Hanley's 28-yard field goal in the third quarter, set up by a 54-yard interception return from Ray McDonough. Brown carried the load for UConn after Andre Dixon injured an ankle in practice this week. UConn's Tyler Lorenzen was 14-for-25 for 184 yards, and three interceptions. Cory Christopher started in place Hofstra's injured quarterback Bryan Savage and threw for 130 yards and two interceptions. He also carried the ball 21 times for just 25 yards, and was sacked seven times. |
