Storrs (WTNH) - Coming off the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships in 2007, the University of Connecticut men's soccer team has been ranked No. 2 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll and No. 1 in the BIG EAST preseason coaches poll, both of which were released Tuesday.

The defending national champion Wake Forest tops the NSCAA rankings, with fellow BIG EAST member Notre Dame earning the No. 3 spot. Boston College and Santa Clara round out the top five. The Huskies will face five teams ranked in the preseason top 25, including conference foes Notre Dame, West Virginia (No. 15) and USF (No. 18). In addition, they will take on St. Louis (No. 19) and Tulsa (No. 23) in non-conference action.

In the BIG EAST poll, the Huskies were picked to claim the Blue Division title for the fourth straight year, while USF was voted atop the Red Division for the second time in three years. The votes were cast by the league's 16 head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Connecticut earned 14 first-place votes and 112 total points in the 2008 preseason poll. The team will be led by BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario).
