No. 3 seed Louisville is one step closer to its fourth straight appearance in the title match of the BIG EAST Championship with a 3-0 win over No. 6 seed Syracuse. Cardinal senior Jana Matiasovska, an All-BIG EAST First Team selection, had a match-high 16 kills and junior Justine Landi, another first teamer, had a 22 assists and 13 dig double-double to power Louisville into the semifinals.

No. 7 seed Pittsburgh responded from its 2-0 match deficit with wins in three straight sets. Panther senior Kelly Campbell was a force throughout the match, smashing all the important points in all three winning sets.      

Louisville hosted No. 20 Missouri on Nov. 15 and beat the Tigers behind multiple first-place efforts from Junior Carlos Van Isschot and sopohomore Therese Bergstrom. Van Isschot was named the men's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week after being part of two record setting relays in the win. Bergstrom earns the women's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honor with a pair of first-place finishes in two breaststroke events. 

The Georgetown men and Villanova women won the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., on Oct. 31.  Junior Andrew Bumbalough led the Hoyas with a time of 23:55 in the men's 8,000-meter race.  Senior Frances Koons paced the Wildcat women with a 20:13 finish on the 6,000-meter race.

DePaul freshman Matthew Graham has earned men's BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors for his role in the Blue Demons' fourth-place finish at the Fordham Fiasco in the Bronx, N.Y.  On the women's side, sophomore Lilian Jelimo of Cincinnati has been named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week for leading the Bearcats to a team victory at the Queen City Invitational in Alexandria, Ky.

The 2009 BIG EAST Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships have a new home, the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Home to the 2008 Olympic Diving Trials, the swim center is part of the IUPUI Sports Complex on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The championships will be held Feb. 18-21, 2009.
