East Hartford (WTNH) _ A member of the UConn track team has been arrested for trying to buy a gun, violating his protective order.

The Hartford Courant reports that Daniel Hutcherson, 23, was arraigned today in Manchester Superior Court.  The judge kept Hutcherson's bond at $500,000 and then called him a danger to society.

Hutcherson was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and violation of a protective order.  He tried to buy a Winchester Ranger Shotgun at Cabela's despite having a protective order agianst him.

Hutcherson was detained May 1st when he went to Cabela's to pick up the gun he'd originally ordered back in March.  Police say they were tipped off by the UConn police.

Police are calling him an immeadiate threat danger to himself and the UConn community.

Hutcherson also faces charges of assault and breach of peace in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident in Storrs back in October.
