Hartford (AP) _ Connecticut's Ketia Swanier is staying in state to play pro basketball.
The Connecticut Sun used its second pick in the first round of Wednesday's WNBA draft to take the 5-foot-7 guard, who was a key cog in the Huskies' run to the NCAA Final Four. Swanier won the Big East's Sixth Man award this season, averaging seven points per game and dishing out a team high 153 assists for UConn. She was the 12th pick overall in the draft, which came just three days after the Huskies lost to Stanford in a national semifinal game. The Sun used their first pick in the draft, the ninth overall, to take Amber Holt, a 6-foot guard from Middle Tennessee. Holt led the nation with a 27.3 points-per-game scoring average. |
