(WTNH) _ There's nobody on the Track and Field team who delivers on and off the field like Captain Basil Campbell.

"When you say student athlete, he's the kid who comes to mind. He does it all. He's a high character kid, he's our captain...you can't ask for much more from Basil," said Head Coach Greg Roy.

The team asks a lot from Basil and over the past two years he has consistently been one of the team's highest scorers in Big East competition.

"He runs everything from the sprints up to the 400 and the hurdles in between," Coach Roy said.

You could say Basil is good at multi-tasking. In addition to keeping up his grades and getting his times on the track down, Basil somehow makes time for a job.

Unlike many UConn athletes who work a few hours a week on campus, Campbell goes off-campus and works overnight at Fed-Ex.

"I needed a job. I hated working all summer and then watching my bank account decrease, so I was like, I need to start working more," said Basil.

He worked five nights a week for some time and now that he's closing in on the end of his UConn career, he's down to three shifts a week. But never has his workload, which makes him an effective team captain.

"Last Thursday I surprised them by being at Study Hall, making sure they were all there doing their work," Basil said.

When he's not at work or studying, he's working out and when the team workouts are over, he's asking the coach for more. That's why he believes that when his track career at UConn is over, he can continue at the next level.

"If I work hard enough, like I've been doing, I belive anything is possible," Basil said.

Basil won the 200 meter race in the Big East Track and Field Indoor Championship and he led the men to their third title at the Big East Championships.
