(WTNH) _ Two of the top athletes on the swimming and diving team are brothers and this family has a history at UConn.

Chris Ferriera is a senior sprinter and his little brother Stephen is a sophomore diver but this story begins with a couple of other UConn swimmers--mom and dad.

"We both swam at the University of Connecticut and we were training down in Ft. Lauderdale," said Sandy Ferriera.

Tom was captain of the swim team in 1981 and Sandy was captain in 1983.

"We got to know each other on this training trip. We met, Sandy asked me to dance and the rest was history. Now we have three kids," said Tom Ferriera.

Their youngest son Kevin is sophomore swimmer at Madison's Daniel Hand High School and may end up UConn too. But for now, it's two current Huskies.

"It's great except one's on the deep end and one's on the shallow end. So we run back and forth a little bit," Sandy said.

Coach Goldberg says, "We've had our shares of brothers and sisters, especially from Connecticut over the years...but to have a brother that's a swimmer and a diver is pretty unique."

And they're pretty good too. Chris went to the Big East Championship as one of the top three sprinters in the league. Stephen has already qualified for the Zone Meet to compete against the top divers from the region.

"I was a crazy kid and I liked to flip and stuff. It fit my personality," Chris said.
