(WTNH) _ Track and field star Tynisha McMillian is gaining national recognition as she shatters school records in the shot put.

While at Stamford High School, McMillian was coveted by colleges all over the country. Four years of recruiting paid off for UConn coach Bill Morgan.

"It was huge. Probably the biggest signing we've ever had here at the university," Morgan said.

The sophomore is not only turning into a likely All-American, but Morgan says he's been able to land other top recruits because she is at UConn.

Last year as a freshman, McMillian set the school shot-put record and then broke her own record this year. She has the fourth best throw in the country and it looks like she'll be heading to the NCAA national championships in March.

But McMillian also has her eyes on a bigger prize. "My number one goal right now is the Olympic trials. I want to go to the Olympics," she said.
