(WTNH) _ The success of fall and winter sports at UConn has landed the university in the top ten in the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup.
The Director's Cup tracks all the sports at a school and awards points accordingly. The success of the men's and women's soccer teams both making the quarterfinals of the national tournament, the field hockey team making the semi-finals and the football team earning a bowl bid, all earned points for the Huskies. Connecticut is ranked 8th for the month of January, right behind West Virginia and ahead of Texas and Florida. "We've had the best fall that we've ever had in UConn athletic history and I'm so proud of our coaches and student athletes," Athletic Director Jeff Hathaway said. "To have the two soccer teams each go to the Elite 8, to have the field hockey go to their second consecutive Final Four and then another bowl game in football -- it's hard to beat that fall." California is ranked number 1 in the Director's Cup. The top four teams are from the Pac-Ten. |
