MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Tuesday, January 06, 2009) - The No. 2 University of Connecticut men’s basketball team prevailed to a 61-55 victory at No. 22 West Virginia at the WVU Coliseum on Tuesday night. Jeff Adrien (Brookline, Mass.) led all scores with 17 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Stanley Robinson had a game-high 15 boards, helping the Huskies out-rebounded the Mountaineers 52-33. Robinson contributed seven points and four assists in the game.

Van Isschot was named the men's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week after being part of two record setting relays in the win. Bergstrom earns the women's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honor with a pair of first-place finishes in two breaststroke events.

Junior Andrew Bumbalough led the Hoyas with a time of 23:55 in the men's 8,000-meter race. Senior Frances Koons paced the Wildcat women with a 20:13 finish on the 6,000-meter race.

Syracuse University women's lacrosse head coach Gary Gait has been named the Northeast Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). In his first year at the helm of the program, Gait led the Orange to a school-record 18 wins, the BIG EAST regular-season and championship titles and an appearance in the national semifinals of the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history.

The BIG EAST Women's Rowing Championship is set to commence on April 27 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The championship opens with lt;br />two Varsity Eight preliminary races at 8:30 and 8:40 a.m. Final races will begin at 11:50 a.m.

Of all the UConn athletes competing at the international level this summer, all but one of them represented the United States. That one exception is swimmer Jon Wong, who comes to UConn from Canada, but represented Jamaica in this summer's Pan American Games.
