Men's Soccer: Soccer Games Against BU Rescheduled

STORRS, Conn. (Friday, September 05, 2008) - The University of Connecticut men's soccer game against Boston University for Saturday has been changed to Sunday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

Both have earned league honors for the second consecutive week as Dew was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Russell was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Rutgers junior Caycie Gusman earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors while Georgetown freshman Samantha Baker has been named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.

The BIG EAST had numerous athletes participating in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Several teams, along with individual performers, grabbed gold medals. One of the biggest highlights for a USA team was women's soccer winning gold on Rutgers alum Carli Lloyd's gamewinner in overtime of the title game. Former Notre Dame players Shannon Boxx and Kate (Sobrero) Markgraf, along with Syracuse's new head coach Phil Wheddon (assistant coach) helped lead the team to victory.

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – For the second straight year, a BIG EAST men's soccer player has been named the winner of the Missouri Athletic Club (M.A.C.) Hermann Trophy, as Connecticut junior O'Brian White won the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer, announced on Jan. 11. The award is the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Year award for Division I competition.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Reigning Missouri Athletic Club (M.A.C.) Hermann Trophy winner Joseph Lapira, along with Connecticut junior forward O'Brian White have been named finalists for the 2007 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in collegiate soccer. Joining Lapira and White as a finalist for the award is Virginia Tech's Patrick Nyarko.
